Wheaton April Update

Program News

1000 Books Before Kindergarten is happening at all Montgomery County Public Libraries. If you are a parent, caregiver or family daycare provider we would love to introduce you to this awesome program for children and their caregivers.

There will not be an evening story time or You-kele and Me program at Wheaton Interim in April.

April is Financial Literacy Month -

How to Protect Yourself Against Identity Theft  will be presented on Wednesday April 11, 2018 at 5:00 pm in the Green Room. Come after school and after work to learn how you can protect yourself against this common crime. Program is for teens and adults.

Library Advisory Committee

The Wheaton Library Advisory Committee will meet on Monday April 16, 2018 at 7:30 pm in the WVRS Conference Room.

New Building News

 Stairwells are being constructed. Metal framing for the exterior walls and panels is being installed. The canopy supports are now in place.

Wheaton Interim Library March Update


The Wheaton Interim branch will be kicking off  1000 Books Before Kindergarten on March 24, 2018. During evening storytime,  March 26, 2018 Wheaton children's staff will highlight the new MCPL reading program that encourages caregivers to read to their children. This multi-year program will be similar to the on-line summer reading program. The "1000 Books Before Kindergarten" program will allow young children and their caregivers to track all books they have listened/read between birth and five years of age.

Wheaton Interim will continue to provide preschool story times through the Spring and Summer on Tuesday mornings at 10:30 am. Pajama story time will continue on Monday evenings at 6:30 p.m.
You-kele and Me will continue on Thursday afternoons at 4:00 pm.

The Wheaton Interim Library will be having a Resume Writing workshop on Friday March 23 at 10:30 am. Please call the the Wheaton Interim branch for more information, 240-777-0678.

Wheaton LAC News

The Wheaton Library Advisory Committee will be meeting on Monday March 19, 2018 at 7:30 pm.
Please join us for a discussion on advocacy, collection needs, and new facility updates.

New Facility 

The Wheaton Library and Community Recreation Center framing is in progress. The structural steel is being erected. Mechanical, electrical and plumbing areas are currently being worked on.

Wheaton Interim Library December Update

Furniture Survey

The furniture survey for the new Wheaton Library building is currently in progress. The closing date will be Sunday December 17, 2017.

Nine chairs are available to test and to give feedback on. There are three adult lounge chairs, two children's lounge chairs, two teen lounge chairs, and two task chairs.  The survey is online in English, Spanish, French, and Chinese. The Library Department and Department of General Services would like to hear from you!

Library Advisory Committee Meeting - December 18, 2017

The Wheaton Library Advisory Committee will be meeting Monday December 18, 2017 at 7:30 PM.  The LAC meetings are held in the second floor conference room of the Wheaton Volunteer Rescue Squad Station Building. Wheaton residents are welcome to come and give community input on library services, programs, facilities, and funding.

Construction Update!

Costello Construction has begun the steel erection process on the new library/community recreation center building at the corner of Georgia and Arcola Avenues. The second floor structure is now in progress. The first floor concrete work is continuing.

Wheaton Interim Programs

Wheaton programs will continue through the holidays. InterACT Family Story Theatre will host a Books Alive! Family Literary Fiesta on January 13, 2018. Signs ups are encouraged, call us at 240 777-0678,

Wheaton Interim Branch October 2017 Update

Over 250 persons participated in Build A Better World summer reading programs at the Wheaton Interim branch.

Wheaton Interim library has settled into the steady rhythms of fall. Toddler storytime is at 10:30 AM on Tuesday mornings. Pajama storytime is at 6:30 PM on Monday evenings. Me and You-kulele is on Thursdays at 4:00 PM.

In addition, Wheaton Interim will host a MD STEM Festival event, Three Little Pigs and the Huff and Puff House. This craft activity for children will take place on Thursday November 9, 2017 at 4:00  PM.

The Wheaton Interim is looking for teen volunteers to staff our Homework Help program on Mondays and Wednesday afternoons. SSL hours are offered, and teens in grades 10 and up are encouraged to apply.

The new building is continuing to move ahead. Concrete is being poured for the garage roof and first floor.

Sample furniture has been ordered for a customer survey in November. The survey will be conducted in the Wheaton Interim Library for one month. Wheaton Interim will have special furniture survey kickoff on Sunday November 19, 2017.

Wheaton Interim - August Update

Summer Read and Learn runs through September 10, 2017. If you haven't signed up yet, you still have time to get involved!

MCPL Express at Mid-County services will be suspended from August 27-September 10, 2017 due to planned yearly maintenance of the Mid-County Community Center.

The Wheaton Library Advisory Committee is recruiting new members. We are looking for a wide range of community members to provide input on library services, materials, and programs. High school juniors and seniors are encouraged to apply and may earn SSL hours for their participation. The Library Advisory Committee is a sub-board of the the Montgomery County Library Board. The meetings will be held on the third Monday of the month. The next meeting is planned for September 18, 2017 7:30 pm  at the Wheaton Volunteer Rescue Squad Station, 2nd floor conference room. There is a live camera feed to view the construction procress.

Currently concrete work on the foundation walls is ongoing.

The community will be invited to view and try sample furniture that may be selected for the new library. Dates for the review will be posted soon.
