Closing Ceremony and a New Beginning

Turning off the lights & closing the gate!
The Wheaton Library closed March 13 in a ceremony attended by many current and past Wheaton customers and staff members. MCPL Director Parker Hamilton acted as the Master of Ceremonies for the event. Speakers included County Executive Isiah Leggett, County Councilmember Nancy Navarro, Department of General Services Director David Dise, Department of Recreation Director Gabe Albornoz, Mid-County Regional Services Center Director Luisa Montero-Diaz, Wheaton LAC Chair Carolyn Teich, and Friends of the Library, Montgomery County (FOLMC) Executive Director Ari Brooks.

The interim location for the Wheaton Library will be at 2400 Arcola Avenue, the site of the Wheaton Volunteer Rescue Squad Ballroom at Wheaton Glen. The interim location will have the same hours as the Wheaton branch. No opening date has been announced. You can read the official press release about the interim location.

The interim site for the used bookstore located in the lower level of the Wheaton Library and operated for MCPL by FOLMC, will be the former Silver Spring Library building at 8901 Colesville Road in Silver Spring. A date for the opening of the bookstore's interim location has not been announced. Visit the FOLMC website for updates.

The new Wheaton Library and Recreation Center, which will be constructed on the same site as the now-closed building, is scheduled to open in Summer 2018.
